What is Creators Getting Paid

I began blogging in 2012. I was a huge fan of personal finance bloggers and was inspired to share my own financial story. My hope was that by doing that maybe I could help at least one other person who had gone through the financial crap that I had. You see, I’d fallen in love with the stories that people shared from all walks of life and those stories made me see that I wasn’t alone in dealing with the stuff that I was dealing with.

*In order for me to support my blogging activities, I may receive monetary compensation or other types of remuneration for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial and/or link to any products or services from this blog. Please read my disclosure and privacy policy here.*

When I started blogging I just wanted to share my story. There was no thought of making money online-in fact, I couldn’t even imagine what that could look like. How could I ethically monetize my brand and continue to serve others? This tension was at the heart of many conversations in that creative space for awhile and then people started to make money online with their unique projects.

Creators Getting Paid-The Newsletter

Creators Getting Paid is focused on helping online creatives who are trying to figure out how to ethically monetize their brands and still get paid for the work that they’re doing. As I worked on my own monetization journey I noticed a couple of problems that online creatives were struggling with regardless of the niche that they were in. They were conflicted with how to monetize their impactful creative brands in the most ethical ways possible.

These creators were confused about how to leverage and optimize all of the components of their entire brand in order to make money.

Many people felt guilty or uneasy about wanting to make money with their creative work. This conflict was especially evident for creators in underrepresented communities or creators focused on social good endeavors.

To all of this I say the following-I struggled with this internal conflict for longer than I would like to admit. COVID meant that I made pivots in order to sustain my energy and continue being in business during what we can all agree was a stressful time.

Who Is Creators Getting Paid For?

  • Creators Getting Paid is for online content creators growing and developing transformative projects that serve unique communities that otherwise wouldn’t be served in the way that you envision.
  • Creators Getting Paid is for online content creators who are needing to sustain (financially) their projects and themselves (I’m not trying to convince anyone that they should be paid for the work that they’re doing) either they want to get paid or they don’t. Usually they’ve made this decision because of the following:
    • They continue to be deeply invested and focused on the project that they’ve developed.
    • They’ve hit the point where they are aware of the cost of time to work on their projects. For some creatives they are looking to at least break even financially. For others they are hoping to build income from their project and create a new income stream
  • Creators Getting Paid is for online content creators looking for ideas on how to make money with their online projects and are looking to build recurring, predictable revenue.

What to Expect from Creators Getting Paid

My goal with Creators Getting Paid is to share inspirational case studies, tips and insight into how other online content creators built and grew sustainable online businesses without selling their soul. To inspire and share candid conversations about what it’s like to monetize online brands.

Also expect some candid conversations around what it’s like to monetize your online work. You will hear the following:

  • Monetization is hard work-there’s no overnight success
  • That it will take awhile to figure out the earnings mix that works best for you.
  • Why online monetization is so confusing-Because every single freaking online brand is monetized differently and that’s why it’s so confusing to figure out what will work best for you.

A Story of Cash Flow

Finally, at the heart of Creators Getting Paid is the goal of sharing strategies to get online creators to focus on and grow their monthly cash flow. Because so many of us have learned the hard way (that includes me) that you can make money online but generating predictable cash flow is a totally different beast.

Predictable cash flow becomes the difference between you being able to reinvest in your business, pay your rent or mortgage, purchase a workshop, course or coaching. As that cash flow grows-so do your options. Again, I learned this the hard way. I was making money online but the best times working on my business that I had as an online creator was when I knew that predictable income was coming in.

  • I was less stressed
  • That income allowed me to make different decisions with my business
  • I could say “No” to projects (especially freelance projects) that wouldn’t work for me-I wasn’t as desperate.
  • That money paid for retreats that helped recharge and reenergize me
  • Was the money that paid for conference attendance and more.
  • That income allowed me to negotiate brand deals differently-because I was operating from a place with some cash in my pocket.

I don’t want you to stop working on the incredible work that you’re doing because of financial stress. But, if you’re anything like me-you may need some inspiration and ideas and tips on how to monetize your online brand. There are so many opportunities to make money online and leverage the internet to do it. Creators Getting Paid is an accessible tool and community to help you figure things out.
