This is actually a bit of a trick question. It can feel like everyone and their mother is launching a newsletter and the purpose of them may feel a little confusing. Like, what’s the point of a newsletter. I think a better question to focus on is are you building an email list and how are you actively communicating to that list. By the way, I host a free email list building workshop a couple of times a month-go to: https://creatorsgettingpaid.com/list to see when I’m hosting my next free List Building Lab workshop if you need help getting started or motivated to focus on building your list again.

What Exactly is a Newsletter?
Put simply, it’s a branded communication that’s published on a regular schedule or cadence. In 2026, a newsletter doesn’t necessarily need to be written. You could upload a video, audio or write something out. The majority of tools that you would use to send out a newsletter has these features.
Why should you send out a regular newsletter?
- To share what you’re working on directly to your audience. This could be a post, podcast content (audio or video) or to advertise an upcoming experience.
- A newsletter is a wonderful opportunity to build trust with your audience on a weekly basis.
- Newsletters have a higher rate of return when you sell direct to your audience. In 2024, Beehiiv reported that email marketing had a 3600% return on investment.
A newsletter and regular emailed communications help businesses, creators, spaces, whatever you are move through the “Know, Like and Trust” phase of social connection that has to happen before people are going to join your community, go to your conference or buy anything from you. Why do you think companies and individuals such as: Macy’s, Beyonce or Ghostown Oats which is a Black owned oatmilk company. They send communications to their audiences so that they can learn about the following:
- What products, services or experiences they want and what their audience is reacting to or not interested.
- Where their audience is from. Seriously, what state, region or country are they from?
- How their community will respond to different projects that they may be testing out.
The thing about running a newsletter is that you’ll have to show up in a way that many people might not want to. You’ll need to show up at least once a week in order for the newsletter to make sense. If you can’t do it once a week then at least every other week.
So, Should You Start a Newsletter?
Not necessarily, but you should absolutely should be focusing on growing your list. If you don’t want to design a branded weekly communication-fine. Don’t.
Grow and email your lists.
