I really should have titled this podcast “People are paying attention what you’re doing…even if they aren’t talking to you.” I’ll never forget going to Podcast Movement Evolutions when it was hosted in Chicago. It was a difficult experience for me due to stuff happening in my family and I was just having a difficult time in general. While I was there I met people who were subscribed to my newsletter Creators Getting Paid. It was so surprising to me. This had also happened when I was at FinCon when it was being hosted in Atlanta. Each time someone came up to me that I’d never heard from, had no idea was supporting what I was doing was both an incredibly humbling experience and a wake up call.

Show Notes
Not every person wants to talk to the people that they’re supporting. In fact, there’s a long tradition of anonymous patrons of the following: writers, churches, artists and yes, the work that you’re doing. There are a number of ways that quiet supporters are talking to you and you might be missing the communication.
- Newsletter opens-You can go into the backend of your newsletter or email marketing software to see who are the super fans of your work. They are the people who are reading almost everything that you share.
- Shares-This is the person who shares everything that you put out into the world.
- Backlinking to your content-I love this so much. When someone is moved by a piece of content that I’ve worked on and expand on the concept, idea or topic that I discussed and then backlink to that work.
- Nominates you for awards-Not only do they nominate you for an award but they drum up support (votes) so that you can win.
- Purchases your products-Some products that you’ve designed might not get you in front of your customers. However, fans may love what you’ve built.
- Listens to your podcasts-I am an avid podcast listener. There are a number of shows that I’m a freaking SUPER FAN of and the hosts have no idea that I’m a ride or die stan for them. By the way, it could be that you’re a frequent guest on podcast episodes. Liz Wilcox is an example of this for me. I listen to every single episode she’s on.
- Watches and Loves Your Video Content-Are you posting video content somewhere? Where are the watch hours coming from?
- Shares Random Opportunities with Your-I’ve had this happen more than once. Out of the blue someone tells me about a cool: program, grant, scholarship, event, etc. I’ve done the same for other people.
- Gifts your product to others-This one is huge. Access happens in a lot of different ways and gifting a resource, experience, piece of art, etc. to someone else is a signal of that support and belief in your work.
- Random anonymous donations-There’s a girl on Threads who has a person who anonymously donates money for her to purchase a rotisserie chicken each week. Epic.
What I’ve learned about the quiet support that people give me and others.
- Some of your biggest supporters are the quietest people
- Thank them loudly even if you don’t think they’re in the room with you. Say thank you in your content, newsletters, podcasts, videos, etc.
- Mirror this behavior-Be someone else’s loudly quiet supporter too.
My projects wouldn’t grow without this support. Thank you and I want you to know that I appreciate you, you’re valued and your quiet support has always happened during a moment when I’ve needed a sign that I should carry on.
Don’t Be an Asshole
I recently listened to a podcast episode that Kev On Stage recorded with Keith Lee. He made a point that I felt was really important. If you don’t feel like being famous that day-stay inside. Basically, if you’re not feeling energetic, positive or up for dealing with people, limit your time outside until you can show up in a healthy and positive way. You want to avoid landing on one of those lists, you know what I mean “Who’s really nice in person” Be yourself and be mindful of your mood when you’re out and about.
The Creator Income Collective
At the end of 2025 I quietly launched my new membership “The Creator Income Collective” the goal? Help creators make more money by being in community and learning how to better grow and monetize their lists. Members of The Creator Income Collective also gain access to the following resource: SUBSCRIBED-a growing list of creator newsletter or email lists that you can reach out to collaborate with if they say “yes” and your communities and projects align. Head to creatorsgettingpaid.com/membership to become a part of the community today. It’s purposely priced at $9 a month because I want this to be the easiest “Yes” you’ve said to a professional development tool for your online brand this year. Looking forward to meeting you!
