It is almost 3:00 pm my time and I’m frantically trying to get the first of 31 podcast episodes recorded and done. For reasons that are hard to explain, I’ve decided to do a challenge where I release a podcast a day for the month of May. Intuitively, May feels like a great time to rest, recoup and begin planning my summer shenanigans.
Summer has traditionally been the time of year where I double-down and work my ass off. I pitch to be a guest on podcasts, I batch content that I plan to release during the fall and I experiment with creative approaches to the work that I’m doing.
Have you ever heard of “The Ant and the Grasshopper” Fable? I’m going to share the touchy feely ending and the post Capitalist American ending.
Here’s why this story influences how I work-Everyone else is taking their foot off the “gas” and pushing my foot down on the pedal.
Here’s where this 31 Day podcast challenge comes into play. Why am I doing this to myself? It’s a lot of work.
- Challenges are a great way to dig deep with a focus on achieving a specific goal or goals. For me I have 3 main goals:
- To grow my podcast downloads for this show-It’s actually one of my smaller podcasts
- To publicize an evergreen challenge that I’m launching in June-you’ll hear more about it in a second.
- To get ahead of my content creation schedule before June.
How do I plan on achieving this goal-especially considering that I’m already scrambling to get the first episode done.
- Batching record episodes-I love doing a good batch of content and behind ahead of schedule.
- Let go of perfection-I’m not really a perfectionist, but I like to release well-edited and crisp shows whenever possible. During the challenge, I’m going to let that go within reason.
- Finally edit and release guest episodes that I’ve had for several months now.
- Record shorter episodes. My solo episodes typically aren’t that long. However, if I’m crunched for time like I am today-keeping the episode short and sweet is a great way to get the episode recorded and released to the world
- Just stay focused on the end goal-which is to finish the challenge. It may be a little messy, but I’m going to make it happen.
This challenge is much easier than the year that I stopped shopping. Before I sign off I have two final pieces of information for you.
- Are you needing inspiration and community to earn your next $1,000 dollars? I’m launching a live challenge that starts in June.
