Listen to the Episode
I’m always surprised when I met a content creator/entrepreneur who has a deep dislike of affiliate marketing. They will often say “Sell your own products” “Why are you spending time marketing someone else’s stuff?” These comments often leave me confused because there are so many products and tools that are out there that I use that I would love to share with my audience. It’s also highly unlikely that I’m going to develop anything similar or adjacent to the products that I would be interested in becoming an affiliate of. When I see well-known creators such as Stu McClaren, Amy Porterfield and Jenna Kutcher doubling down on sharing their affiliates-I feel like my views of affiliate marketing are validated. I still love affiliate marketing for so many reasons here’s a few reasons why.

Show Notes
For those of you who are still wondering how exactly does affiliate marketing work? I’m going to give you a quick and dirty guide to affiliate marketing before I share what I love about it.
- Find a product, tool or service that has an affiliate program. Ideally, you are a super fan who understands the ins and outs of the product and can share it thoughtfully.
- You are assigned a dedicated link that you can share in your content (where it makes sense)
- If purchases are made with that link, you get a small percentage of that purchase
You Can Share Helpful Tools
- Did you take a course, workshop or go to an event? You can share with your audience and not develop, teach or run any of those experiences. I love hosting events, It’s highly unlikely that I’ll host a large in person event again.
Develop and Deepen Your Digital Sales Skills
Selling online requires the development of certain skillsets. Fortunately, they’re transferrable to your own products and services. Skills such as:
- Copywriting
- Storytelling related to the product and outcomes experienced
- Product placement
- Sharing pros and cons about something that you’ve used.
Test Out Different Product Price Points
Affiliate marketing is an easy way to add products to your business with the goal of seeing what your clientele will purchase at what price. If you would like to sell a high ticket package/product but aren’t sure if your audience would purchase it-a high ticket affiliate offering may be a great way to test things out. You don’t lose time building a course/coaching/etc. You just create content that helps you share and sell the affiliate.
Help Someone Else Make Money
Maybe you have a larger community than a person who has developed something really cool! You can help uplift, highlight and share that person’s project while making money at the same time. There are a couple of conferences that I plan on doing this for in the Fall.
Learn Product Development
This is a huge skillset that you can never unlearn. An often under-discussed skillset is learning how to develop products/books/etc. that make the affiliate product experience even better. In fact, there are a number of digital content creators who’ve done really well by designing resources such as this. Here are a few examples:
- Miss Excel on TikTok-Helps people understand how to use Excel
- Gold City Ventures tools focused on Etsy
